Alan Baillie

Alan Baillie is one of the north's foremost silversmiths. His unique jewellery designs are sought after and exclusive. We normally stock a selection of pieces. Alan also specialises in Scottish quaichs, sgians and the like.

"My work is created through living and reacting to the beautiful landscape of the Scottish Highlands. I use chasing to capture the wind sculpted snow and the ice-encrusted rock I experierience in the mountains, and impart this into my silver and jewellery.
Like the Picts before me who distilled their reaction to their environment on sculpted stones, I too am staggered by the fearful symmetry of a spring salmon and the gnarled pearl on a roe horn.
Through chasing, I can explore the full potential of the beautiful material of fine silver."

(note: "chasing" is a painstaking technique used by silversmiths to give texture to the surface of the piece)
