Fiona Matheson

A wide variety of both greetings cards and limited edition prints are available at the gallery from this artist. Also calendars, notebooks etc.

News: Fiona Matheson recently won the ICA Best Artist Award 2010 - chosen by public vote in the Highlands. In August she holds a major exhibition at Tore entitled SEEDS OF CHANGE, along with Clare Blois, a previous winner of the same award.

Fiona was born in Aberdeen in 1964. She studied Art and Design at Kingston before gaining BA (Hons) in textiles at Winchester School of Art. She specialised in constructed textiles and was awarded the “Young Designer into Industry” Award by the Royal Society of Art. This led her to a career with Marks and Spencer as a senior knitwear designer, travelling to New York, France, Italy and Germany.

In 1994 came a change of direction into teaching art, and in 2000 Fiona moved back to Scotland and settled in Inverness to bring up her family and concentrate on her painting.

Living in the heart of the beautiful scenery which was my inspiration from the early years has allowed me to refocus on my own painting, which is now both diverse and experimental. Mixed media, variety of scale, and layers of colour form the main ingredients of each piece

Fiona is a member of Highlands Open Studios and several other arts organisations in the north, and exhibits her work regularly at galleries and exhibitions throughout the Highlands. She has become a well known highland painter and her versatility of scale means that both large and small works are generally available, along with cards and (seasonally) calendars.
