Jane MacRae
Jane MacRae lives on the Black Isle, just north of Inverness. Growing up in Caithness instilled in her a love for open moorland and dramatic coastline which is reflected in many of her landscapes and seascapes. She enjoys creating texture and tone with palette knife and brush on thickly applied acrylic paint, a process which has developed into her own distinctive style.
"Using acrylic in the manner of oil paint to create layers requires me to paint quickly, often mixing paint directly on the canvas rather than the palette. I enjoy using this technique to build up atmosphere and I'm often drawn to deserted unspoiled locations."
Delicate greys and pastels predominate in Jane's work, often evoking the mysterious nature of the northern landscape, with subtle shades of blue blending into infinite skies.
A member of Highlands Open Studios, Jane exhibits her paintings throughout the Highlands and beyond.
