Kit Beecroft

Kit Beecroft was born in East Yorkshire and now divides his time between Scarborough and London. In recent years he has turned to larger format oil paintings, and we are pleased to be exhibiting some examples at Tore. Kit's interests include ancient history and comparative mythology, and he is also inspired by the work of Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Ivor Hitchens and David Bomberg.

"The most a maker of images can hope for is that, for a moment, he can divert the viewer from the daily round. In the age of mass media, bombardment of the visual sense has seemingly limited attention spans to a degree where "optical illiteracy" has gained ground.

I believe a painting has to be experienced as an intuitive, feeling function, some of which is subliminal and therefore difficult to intellectualise."

Kit also produces prints of his paintings.
