Miriam Smith
Miriam is a watercolour artist based near the city of Inverness. Using the surrounding scenery and plant life as inspiration, she creates vibrant and expressive paintings. Although predominately working with watercolour, Miriam has been exploring textile and finds that the profusion of texture, colour and technique that this medium provides is a stimulus in itself.
Miriam has work in private collections in both America and Australia as well as here in Britain.
‘I love the fluidity and freshness of watercolour, the challenge of its unpredictability. I paint spontaneously, using these inherent qualities rather than trying to restrain them; my aim is to achieve colours that sing and paintings that are lively and natural. This I also strive to achieve in my textile work.’
