Vicky Stonebridge
Vicky Stonebridge achieved a BA hons in Art & Design at Edinburgh College of Arts in 1988 in Ceramics. She set up Balnacra Pottery in 1995, combining work with family, at the now demolished site of ‘The Gates’ at Achnashellach. This moved to her studio adjacent to the Lochcarron Smithy in 2001. The pottery closed in 2005, and since then, Vicky has worked on many community art projects, produced an animation which was shown at an International Film Festival and as an art-worker with a Young Carers Charity. She is also on call over 120 hours a week with the Lochcarron Fire and Rescue Service. She is also involved in the comics’ community, running the annual HI EX Comic convention in Inverness.
Vicky most enjoys working creatively with people of all ages & abilities, teaching and running workshops, whether it’s creating recycled art, comics or fine art.
Vicky’s inspirations are varied, from a solid foundation of folklore, myth and ancient decorative art follows an intrigue with contemporary Highland Life, people and places. In recent painted work she has been exploring images of fire fighting, as well as the more traditional landscape art. Vicky also paints digitally, producing illustrations and comic strip art for a range of UK independent comics & magazines. Her art is predominantly about storytelling, the viewer and the characters within the art create their own narrative. The Fire Fighting paintings take a fresh look at a job where individuals play an archetypal role. Vicky was a recent participant of the 5th Elabuga International Arts symposium in Tartarstan, Russia- where work she produced on the theme ‘Breath of the Epos’ will tour internationally.
