Deborah CAMERON

Deborah Cameron is an Edinburgh based artist who features in our May 2008 exhibition "Going West" (q.v.). Most of the works on this page will be shown in the exhibition.

"Many of my works are based on memories of a particular day, place or experience, none more so than my work relating to the Outer Hebrides. Although I moved to the mainland in 1992, the beauty and power of the place remains with me, draws me back, and influences much of my painting.

I try to capture and convey not only what I see, but also what I feel. I believe it is important to work with honesty, integrity and skill, keeping the balance required to keep the work accessible to the viewer.
I have been painting full time since 2003, and the ideas I am working on have been carried around in my head for years just waiting for a chance to find expression. They do not come out in any kind of order, so I may work on vastly different pieces within a short period of time.

Although the islands, and the sea in particular, are still a very strong influence I also work on many other themes. Texture excites me - man-made things being reclaimed by nature - looking very closely at the unexpected, and finding the beauty in them are elements which run through my work."
