Gillian PATTINSON
(paintings on this page available at the gallery)
Gillian Pattinson attended the Byam Shaw Scool of Drawing and Painting in London, with the intention of studying calligraphy. However marriage and four children intervened. It was not until they all came to live in the West Highlands that painting became an essential part of her life.
In order to learn to paint her “own scenery” Gillianfounded her own painting school !- the North West Highlands Art Courses. Over the years these courses, held in the stunning setting ofGillian's homenear Kishorn, have attracted tutors of international renown and students from all over the world, many of whom are annual visitors.
Gillian herself uses many types of media but finds mixed media and collage one of the most exciting in which to express the emotions that the Highland scenery evokes. She walks the hills and seashore in all weathers trying to capture the constantly changing light and colour, the fury and the calm of this magnificent landscape.
Gillian is a regular exhibitor at Tore Art Gallery and the Carron Gallery, Strathcarron. She has also recently exhibited at the Hanover Fine Arts Gallery, Edinburgh with a group of five highland artists and at the Mall Gallery, London.
Gillian’s paintings have been bought by people from many parts of Europe, the United States and as far afield as South Africa and Australia.
She says:
“I prefer to start a painting on site and walk up in the hills in all weathers. Working fast to keep the spontaneity I will tear, gouge, splatter and add paper until I feel I have captured the power and excitement of the scene.”
