Jennie ABELL

(Note: images on this page are examples only and have already been sold - new work is available at the gallery)

Jennie Abell's love and knowledge of the Scottish mountains inspires and informs her paintings. The oil paint is applied very thickly to evoke the textures of the rocks and landscape in her atmospheric works.

The paintings are on deep unframed canvasses, with the images wrapping around the sides in the same thick textures.

'I am a self-taught artist. I have been drawing and painting for most of my life; my work is, at present, based around the Scottish Landscape. I use acrylic or oil paint to convey a sense of the power and beauty of the Highlands, which is some of the remotest wild country in Britain.

My work is expressionistic in its nature, portraying the beauty of sea, sky, mountains and colours that are abundant in the Highlands.

I grew up in Norfolk and graduated in Zoology from Edinburgh University. The outdoors has always held my passion; I am a keen mountaineer, skier, canoeist and windsurfer.

I live near Spean Bridge and work part-time as a countryside ranger in Glen Nevis. I spend a lot of my time in the hills, seas and lochs through work and pleasure and continue to gain inspiration for my art through the light, colour and dramatic mountain scenery that surrounds the area. '

Jennie has also produced a range of greetings cards featuring her mountain paintings - available at the gallery
