Margaret McKAY
Margaret McKay is originally from the Edinburgh area but has lived in Inverness for many years. She has studied painting with the Open College of the Arts and has taken courses at Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art. She works mainly in oil in a vigorous, painterly style.
She finds the magnificent Highland landscape with its ever-changing light is endlessly inspiring, but she is also interested in still life, and life drawing and painting. Architectural subjects are an abiding passion, whether domestic interiors, cityscapes or agricultural buildings. In fine weather she enjoys painting out of doors, but believes that the more considered approach when working from sketches in the studio also has advantages.
Constantly varying her subject matter and working methods keeps her work fresh and lively. Every year she goes to France with a group of fellow artists from the Inverness area and this adds yet another dimension to her art.
She has exhibited widely in the Highlands and her work is usually to be found in Tore Art Gallery. Margaret will be exhibiting her paintings during the Highlands Open Studios week, many of them will have an Inverness "people and buildings" theme.
